So I just got finished watching Tron: Legacy on TV. I didn't have a chance to catch it at the theater. The special effects were really awesome, especially the light cycles, and for that one reason, I kinda wish I'd shelled out the exorbitant cost for the movie experience. I really liked how they made Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner *hearts Bruce* look so young in the "flashback" scene. That was a fantastic special effect/make-up job. The plot itself was not too bad, though I would have liked to have seen.....

...more of Tron. You know, the character that the movie is named after. ^_^;;

But, what really didn't sit well with me was the audio. The soundtrack is pretty cool...I like the sound effects and music by Daft Punk put together for the film. What was bad was the actual dialog. In that, I couldn't understand What The Hell They Were Saying half the time. The dialog volume was overshadowed or outright drowned out by the sound effects and "background" music (which was anything but background). In addition to that, there were a lot of points in the movie where the dialog was in 'echo' format (i.e. speeches in a stadium, or behind a mask that distorted, etc). Do you know how hard it is to understand complex sentences when they are overlapped by an echo? Geez. I felt like I needed to turn on the subtitles and read what they were saying half the time. At other times, the dialog scenes were so low in volume that I had to keep turning up the volume on the TV, only to quickly turn it down with a hiss when a sound effect or "background" music suddenly blasted me. At one point, I actually had the volume up to 100 (the highest it would go) just to hear a conversation taking place between Sam and his dad, where his dad was explaining what all had happened that destroyed what he'd built and trapped him in the grid. And even at 100, there were parts I didn't quite catch....even after watching it a 2nd time. Ugh!

I really hope, if they make a Tron 3, that they will do a better job on the dialog volume. And there will be more actual Tron :)

It really is worth seeing, in my opinion. I thought it was pretty enjoyable, with the special effects, despite the problems hearing all the dialog. It was just the dialog volume that made it hard. Of course, it could have been my tv that was the problem (or my hearing..hope not). But, if that one thing had been balanced, it would have been much better.
